President Obama’s once soaring favorability rating has reached a new low in the aftermath of the VA scandal and the unpopular Bergdahl-Taliban deal. A new Bloomberg National Poll found that only 44% of Americans now have a favorable view of Obama, with a majority (52%) viewing him unfavorably, a new low that almost matches his consistently low job-approval rating.

Though Obama’s likeability has consistently outperformed his job approval scores, the string of scandals have taken a toll on his strongest attribute. Bloomberg reports:

That drop in personal popularity has become a broader drag on the public’s perception of his performance in office.

Obama, already given poor marks on the economy and health care, also gets low ratings on two recent political firestorms: the management of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the deal that freed the last U.S. prisoner of war in Afghanistan, according to the poll.

His job-approval rating fell to 43 percent -- near the level at the end of 2013 after the botched rollout of the Affordable Care Act, his signature health-care law.

A recent Washington Post-ABC Poll revealed more troubling data for the president. The poll found that the VA and Benghazi scandals, both major black eyes on the administration, were important issues to Americans, with 97% deeming the VA scandal a “serious” issue and a majority believing the administration is involved in a cover up over Benghazi and that an additional congressional investigation is warranted. The poll also found that the three highest scoring “important or very important” issues for voters going into the 2014 election were issues that traditionally worked to Republicans' favor: the economy (84%), the federal budget deficit (70%), and Obamacare (69%).

With Obama’s low ratings in job performance, several key voter issues, and now likeability, the hope that struggling Democrats might turn to him for help is looking dimmer than ever.
