An extremely confident President Obama declared on CBS's Face the Nation that his administration is operating at a peak level and he's running the whole shebang like a boss -- maybe even right up there with George Washington.

“I feel as if I’m a better president than I’ve ever been," Obama said. “That the experience has made me sharper, clearer about how to get stuff done.”

He said he's been reflecting on the wisdom of the Founding Fathers as he nears the end of his term:

"One of the things that I've come to realize is the wisdom of George Washington and the Founders, that for the health of our democracy, having some turnover, having some fresh legs come in are really important."

Obama added that "there is a strong sense of urgency" in his last days at the White House, and he isn't going to waste a single second:

"My team is operating at a peak level and we're really proud of what we're going to do and we're going to run through the tape. But I also think that it's really important for self-governance that we go through this process and I'm able to turn over the keys."

The president said his record reflects a greater safety for Americans now that Osama bin Laden is gone and he believes he's helped save citizens from another Great Depression as president.

When asked if he has lived up to the famous Martin Luther King, Jr. quote sewn into the carpet in the Oval Office, "The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice," Obama said, "The cumulation of the work that we've done moved the needle. It didn't revolutionize the country, but it bent that arc."

But even though one foot is out the door, this won't be the last we hear from Barack Obama, as he promised:

"I'll have a role to play as citizen in making sure that that arc continues bending towards justice, because it doesn't do it on its own."
