Breitbart is reporting that President Obama called for more serious gun control measures today in the wake of the Colorado Springs shootout that ended at a Planned Parenthood clinic Friday.
Addressing the shooting, details of which are very sketchy thus far, Obama stated,
If we truly care about this – if we’re going to offer up our thoughts and prayers again, for God knows how many times, with a truly clean conscience – then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. Period. Enough is enough.
"On our streets"? If Obama cares about getting guns off "our streets," he can start by cracking down on gangs, who are the ones waging war "on our streets," and enforcing current gun laws. In fact, Obama is less concerned about take guns off the streets than taking them out of our homes - the homes of law-abiding gun owners.
He continued,
“We don’t yet know what this particular gunman’s so-called motive was for shooting twelve people, or for terrorizing an entire community, when he opened fire with an assault weapon and took hostages at a Planned Parenthood center in Colorado. What we do know is that he killed a cop in the line of duty, along with two of the citizens that police officer was trying to protect.”
In other words, the shooter's "so-called" motive seems so far to have had nothing to do with Planned Parenthood, but Obama wants to link it to the abortion mill anyway so Planned Parenthood can play the victim of right-wing "violent rhetoric" and "domestic terrorism." And though it's unknown at this point whether the shooter acquired his "assault weapon" legally or not, Obama is going to push for more stringent gun control anyway.
Considering that gun control is going to be the major focus of Obama's final year in office, the Colorado Springs shootout provides him with a great kickoff for that agenda.
