President Obama has spoken amid the social media outcry in support of the Muslim teen who was handcuffed and suspended for bringing a homemade clock that resembled a bomb to school, extending a personal invite to the White House.

The president has long supported science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs, especially pushing for more women and minorities to pursue these fields of study. So, it's no surprise that this incident quickly caught the attention of the president.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Mohamed has been invited to next month's Astronomy Night held at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. He also said, as The Hill notes, that this should be a "teachable moment" about stereotypes.

"It's clear some of Ahmed's teachers have failed him," Earnest said.
