Fox News' primetime star Megyn Kelly could barely get through the replay of Melissa Harris-Perry's "humiliating" interview with Attorney General Eric Holder.
Telling Holder that she referred to him as "The Duck," MSNBC's Harris-Parry asked the outgoing attorney general to "quack for us."
When Kelly played the clip Monday, she covered her eyes, saying, "Oh my god, oh my god. Is it over? Is it over?... It's terrible!"
Her guest, Fox's Howard Kurtz, said it was an SNL-like, "cringe-inducing" moment. Finally breaking into laughter, Kelly asked if the host understood that she'd just "humiliated" herself:
Kelly: What was she doing? How humiliating for her. Does she know how she just humiliated herself?
Here was the original exchange between Harris-Perry and Holder, in which Holder explains that he actually likes her "duck" analogy because though he was "pissed off a lot of the time" as a young black man in the 50s and 60s, he wanted to seem "cool" on the surface (transcript via CNS News):
Harris Perry: You know, we call you the duck, in nerdland, we call you the duck. In nerdland, we say you have a very placid and even way of presenting, but you are just working for justice underneath. Would you quack for us?
Holder: Well I'm not sure I want to do that, but I like the analogy.
Harris-Perry: You do like the analogy? Good.
Holder: Yea because I would like to think that- You know I was born and raised in New York City in the 50's and the 60's and for an African American guy, the thing was to be cool, you know, you got to be cool. Things don't bother you and so on the surface I like to think that that's the way I appear to be. But You're absolutely right those little duck feet are just moving as fast as they can underneath and things are going as fast as they can behind the scenes. and I may have been cool in congressional hearings on the outside but I was pissed off a lot of the time too, you know, and there was a question of trying to reign in those feelings and make sure that on the outside I was cool.
