Left Livid Over Jimmy Fallon’s Trump Interview: He ‘Humanized a Dangerous Man

The Humorless Post

The Huffington Post believes Jimmy Fallon failed at his job of hard-hitting journalism when he didn’t pummel his Thursday night guest, Donald Trump. Never mind the fact that Fallon is not a serious journalist but a former Saturday Night Live funnyman and now hosts a late-night talk show built to showcase his juvenile antics. In HuffPo's view, Fallon did the unthinkable: his good-spirited interview with the Republican nominee “humanized a dangerous man.”

With zero sense of humor, senior editor Maxwell Strachan encapsulated the liberal reaction in his piece, “People Are Justifiably Infuriated With How Jimmy Fallon Handled Trump.” This progressive outrage launched the hypercritical story to the top trend on Facebook’s “unbiased” news section, directly linked to HuffPo.

Fallon’s worst sin? Getting Trump to agree to let the host do something that could never happen if Trump becomes president: mess up his famous hairdo. Strachan lamented:

Before the rub, Fallon did sneak in a few subtle quips, like asking Trump if he knew what a coin was, or suggesting that Trump still has time to drop out if he decides he no longer wants to become president. But by and large, Fallon’s interview was an extended on-air puff piece, filled with same sort of polite give-and-take a late-night host reserves for an actor on an obligatory promotional tour.

Throughout the interview, Fallon was predictably non-confrontational and willing to work with whatever Trump gave him. When Trump made a joke about fearing what people might do to his hamburgers if they know it’s him before he orders, Fallon leaned back in his chair and let out a disproportionately large laugh relative to the funniness of the joke. Was it really that funny? No, it was not.

Lest anyone believe the outlet is that devoid of humor, Strachan backpedaled, conceding that Fallon is just a comedian, not a journalist, but said he should’ve been more like David Letterman in exposing the “truth.”

“Fallon is not Letterman, and he will never will be, nor does he seem to want to be,” Strachan wrote. “But that doesn’t mean he should be let off the hook for humanizing a well-documented xenophobic, racist and misogynistic serial liar, which is exactly what he did on Thursday.”

“Fallon deserves some flak today,” the writer added, before posting multiple Twitter insults by social justice warriors aimed at the late-night talker.

Was this the same reaction when Jimmy Kimmel humanized Hillary Clinton by mocking the complaints about her health by having her open a pickle jar? Not in the least! In its pickle jar piece, The Huffington Post said Kimmel's stunt was done “in good humor” — you know, comedy done by a comedian. Apparently, Fallon doesn't deserve to be judged by the same standard. But really, it's because of Trump hate, as evidenced by this disclaimer that was attached to its pickle story for some reason: “Editor’s note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims — 1.6 billion members of an entire religion — from entering the U.S.” Because relevance?

But HuffPo wasn’t the only liberal outlet disgusted by FallonGate:
