Jonathan Gruber Goes After the NRA

"Guns are a public health issue."

In case the public was not already sick of Jonathan Gruber, a new video has surfaced, this time showing Gruber accusing the NRA of holding Obama’s choice for surgeon general, Vivek Murthy, hostage.

“By the way you have now permanently prevented yourself from winning a high elected office in the United States despite your charisma,” healthinsurance.org’s Harold Pollack told Gruber in an interview.

Pollack was talking about the many recordings that have surfaced of Gruber discussing Obamacare.

“You know they’ll be playing this tape back in an endless loop with a guy with a deep voice in the background,” Pollack added.

That is when Gruber switched topics from Obamacare to firearms by echoing what Vivek Murthy said, calling guns a public health issue.

“I’ll guarantee it further by highlighting that guns are a public health issue,” Gruber said.

“Your friend and mine Vivek Murhty has made the mistake of making that observation,” Pollack said to Gruber.

“Just tragic,” Gruber responded. “It’s unbelievably sad, I mean not just because he’s a great guy, you know that the NRA can just hold the surgeon general hostage is just crazy.”

Murthy has been in a fight with the NRA since his 2012 tweet when he said, “Tired of politicians playing politics w/ guns, putting lives at risk b/c they’re scared of NRA. Guns are a health care issue.”

Even the New England Journal of Medicine has backed Murphy but because of his gun views as well as rabid support for Obama, his nomination has stalled.

The video clip of the men talking about guns and the NRA begins at 9:30.
