Europeans have an awful lot to say about how Israel should run its country, often criticizing the Jewish State disproportionately, wrongfully, and publicly, thus emboldening Palestinian aggressors.
The most recent case of wrong-headed condemnation came when France called on Israel to end the "demolition and confiscation of structures" that European bureaucrats unilaterally decided to build for Palestinians in an area they were not allowed to build in.
To provide background: for quite some time France and other EU members have taken it upon themselves to fund buildings for Palestinian use in Israel-controlled "Area C," located in what Europeans call the "occupied West Bank."
The EU members had no authority to do this -- and unless they are grotesquely ignorant about the laws governing the very area in which they funded development, then they did so knowing full well it was unlawful. Fortunately, Israel did not engage in France's latest game of gotcha and accused the major European country of provoking Palestinian violence with its tactics. The Times of Israel provides details:
Last week, Israel demolished facilities in the Palestinian village of Aqaba, which lies in the Israeli-controlled Area C of the West Bank, triggering international condemnation. The buildings were built by France and other European Union member states for humanitarian purposes but without prior approval by the Israeli government. [...]
“France expresses its deep concern at the continuation — at an unprecedented rate — of the demolition and confiscation of structures intended for the Palestinian population,” the statement continued. Paris called on Jerusalem end such demolitions, which it argued violated international law and endanger a two-state solution.
Israel rejected the assertion on Thursday, stating that every European country seeking construction in Area C is obligated to coordinate with Israel "on any construction" plans for that area.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Emmanuel Nahshon said that since France failed to fulfill its obligation, it "cannot complain about Israel demolishing illegal buildings whose construction was not coordinated with Israel."
According to the Oslo Accords, Israel alone is responsible for civilian issues in Area C, including planning and building, Nahshon added. “As is customary in every country of laws, Israel does not allow construction without proper permits. In this case the construction is done without government approval in a non-residential area and therefore Israel executed its authority and demolished the buildings.”
This was likely European apologists' way of provoking yet another "bad PR" moment for Israel, as they knew the Jewish State would ultimately destroy the unlawful "humanitarian" structures and, predictably, draw "international condemnation." As always, we can thank anti-Semites near and far for ensuring that hostility towards the Jewish State never ceases.
