Ceisler Media and Advocacy, a Pennsylvania-based Public Relations firm, was hired for a one-year engagement of $90,000 by the State of Israel, through the Israel consulate general in Philadelphia.
Larry Ceisler, the principal of the firm, is a mega-donor to Democratic politicians, including having given $2,700 to Hillary Clinton in 2016, and at least $2,500 to President Obama in 2012. In 2008, he gave to both Hillary Clinton and Obama. Ceisler is also a donor to other Democrats, including Senator Bob Casey, New York Senator Gillibrand, and others.
This hiring notably comes amidst concern that support for Israel has increasingly become a partisan political issue, with Republicans lining up to support Israel, and Democrats less so. That makes this move – and the timing of its announcement – particularly interesting.
According to Haaretz, a liberal Israeli newspaper, the engagement includes “targeting districts of key members of Congress, reaching out to local gay groups, and strengthening ties with the Hispanic community.” Additionally, the engagement will include creating a project entitled, “What If Gaza Was Near Your City,” to highlight the dangers that continued rockets from Hamas pose to Israel. The firm suggests highlighting “members of Congress serving in leadership and on key committees to target their districts for targeted outreach,” and mentions the districts of U.S. House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner and of West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin.
