Green 'Demand Climate Action' Ribbons All the Rage at Emmys

Named "the most notable accessory on the red carpet."

Hollywood stars never shy away from promoting their political worldview or beloved social causes, and Sunday night's Emmy Awards was no exception. This year, they were demanding climate action and wore green ribbons to prove it.

Jeffrey Tambor and George R.R. Martin were at least two celebrities who donned the ribbon with the #DemandClimateChange hashtag. Behind the ribbon campaign was the National Resource Defense Council (NRDC), which describes itself as "the nation's most effective environmental action group." Together with President Obama, they are demanding support for the "historic" Clean Power Plan, which calls for a "universal legal agreement" between nations to take "specific steps to achieve a low-carbon future."

This twisted piece of cloth pinned to thousands of dollars worth of suits and dresses, all of which were surely produced in a green, low-carbon factory using recycled materials and by $15 per hour wage earners, caught the attention of progressive media outlet Mic, who called it "the most notable accessory on the red carpet at the 2015 Emmys." Above the very valuable diamond necklaces and diamond-encrusted everything else, no doubt.

NRDC created a Tumblr photo page to thank some of its supporters for wearing the green ribbon at the awards ceremony and to ask for further support:

Tambor, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Louis CK, Don Cheadle, Mandy Patinkin, and Gaby Hoffman are just some of the actors spotted wearing the green ribbon tonight to show support for strong climate action that will leave a better world to future generations.
