George Zimmerman, the man who was acquitted in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin in 2013, was injured in an apparent road rage related shoot-out.
Authorities are reporting that Zimmerman and the alleged gunman had been involved in some sort of ongoing dispute. So far, no arrests have been made.
Lake Mary police spokeswoman Bianca Gillett confirmed that the man who shot at Zimmerman, Matthew Apperson, is the same person who called police last year because he felt threatened by Zimmerman.
According to police, Zimmerman flagged down a Lake Mary police officer shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, saying he was involved in a shooting.
At about the same time, someone called 911 for Apperson to say he was the other person involved in the shooting.
Zimmerman was taken to the hospital and treated for minor injuries.
An employee at a nearby business, Kenneth Cornell, said he was getting out of his car after lunch when he heard someone yell, "I shot George Zimmerman, call 911. I don't have a phone." The witness told police that Zimmerman was shot after waving a gun at Apperson.
Zimmerman's lawyer denies that Zimmerman was waving a gun. "George absolutely denies pointing a gun, displaying a gun -- no aggressive movement toward him at all," lawyer Don West said.
