HBO announced Wednesday that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, the showrunners of the enormously popular Game of Thrones series, will be moving onto their next project for the network — an alternate history series called Confederate. If you're tired of the left's obsession with comparing The Handmaid's Tale to Trump's America, just wait until Confederate hits the small screen.
The series will be set in an alternate history in which the South succeeded in seceding from the Union and slavery remained legal and continued into the modern era. The Wrap goes on to describe the show thusly:
The story takes place during what’s called the Third American Civil War and follows a group of characters on both sides of the Mason-Dixon line, now a demilitarized zone. The groups the characters belong to are vast and include freedom fighters, slave hunters, politicians, abolitionists, journalists and others. One specific group are the executives of a slave-holding conglomerate and the families they control.
Expect the left to expound enthusiastically and relentlessly about how "timely" and "relevent" the show will be under the oppressively racist, white supremacists of the Trump administration. It will enable the race-obsessed left to comment endlessly on what they perceive to be our nation's inherent bigotry. Ta-Nehisi Coates may even get a Pulitzer Prize-winning book out of his musings on it.
Benioff and Weiss had originally contemplated the story as a feature film, “But our experience on ‘Thrones’ has convinced us that no one provides a bigger, better storytelling canvas than HBO,” the two said in a statement. “There won’t be dragons or White Walkers in this series, but we are creating a world.”
Yes, a world which will stoke further racial division among Americans and almost certainly demonize the right, even though the Great Emancipator Abraham Lincoln was Republican and the Democrats were pro-slavery.
Production on this ludicrous concept is expected to begin after the final season of Game of Thrones.
Wake me when Hollywood creates an alt-history series in which the Communists win the Cold War and patriotic Americans form a #Resistance" against the totalitarian government.
