St. Louis County Police found Ferguson protest leader Darren Seals, 29, dead from a gunshot wound inside a burning car early on Tuesday. A motive has not been determined and no witnesses have been identified.

According to Reuters, officers were initially called to the scene of a burning vehicle but as the flames were extinguished, Seals’ body was found. Officers didn’t say where the man was shot.

The report states that Seals was active on Twitter just hours before his death, posting in support of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who has recently caused a firestorm for sitting out the national anthem at games in protest of police brutality. Seals’ Twitter profile describes him as a “businessman, revolutionary, activist, unapologetically BLACK, Afrikan in AmeriKKKa, fighter, leader."

In an interview with MTV from the 2014 Michael Brown/Ferguson protests, Seal said, “I don’t recall anyone having a longer protest, a more productive protest, a more creative protest than what we did. I don’t think people will ever really appreciate what we did until years from now."
