On Monday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch announced a Justice Department probe into the Chicago Police Department in order to root out any racist practices that have led to officer misconduct.

According to the Chicago Sun-Times: "Lynch said the investigation will review in part the department’s use of force and deadly force, how any violations and misconduct allegations are investigated, how officers are disciplined and whether there is any racial or ethnic disparity in how those matters are handled."

The police department will be investigated by the Civil Rights Division in Washington as well as the U.S. Attorney office in Chicago. These two entities will comb through requested information from what Lynch says will be "a broad cross section" of the community, city officials and officers, just to name a few. She added that she will listen to "anyone who wishes to share information relevant to the investigation."

If any "unconstitutional patterns or practices" are found, a federal court order will be sent to Chicago PD.

The reason for the probe is a result of the shooting of Laquan McDonald, the Chicago teenager who was shot 16 times by a white police officer. Lynch ordered a similar investigation into the Baltimore Police Department this last summer after the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody.

Lynch said:

This mistrust from members of the community makes it more difficult to gain help within investigations, to encourage the victims and the witnesses of crime to speak up and to fulfill the most basic responsibilities of public safety officials. And when suspicion and hostility is allowed to fester, it can erupt into unrest. Building trust between law enforcement officers and the communities they serve is one of my highest priorities as Attorney General.

The American public is still waiting for Lynch to announce an investigation into the constitutional violations of President Obama. But until then, racist white men are the administration's top priority.
