Distraught Father Blames 'Politicians' & 'NRA' for UCSB Shooting

"They talk about gun rights. What about Chris's right to live?"

During an emotional press conference the day after the deadly shooting near the University of California Santa Barbara, Richard Martinez, the father of 20-year-old victim Christopher Martinez, blamed "irresponsible politicians" and the "NRA" for his son's death.

His full statement:

Our son Christopher Martinez and six others are dead. Our family has a message for every parent out there: You don't think it will happen to your child until it does.

Chris was a really great kid. Ask anyone who knew him. His death has left our family lost and broken.

Why did Chris die? Chris died because of craven, irresponsible politicians and the NRA. They talk about gun rights. What about Chris's right to live?

When will this insanity stop? When will enough people say, 'Stop this madness!' We don't have to live like this! Too many have died. We should say to ourselves, 'Not one more!'

On Friday night, 22-year-old UCSB student Elliot Rodger stabbed and killed three people before going on a shooting rampage, killing three, including Christopher Martinez, and wounding 13 others. Rodger, son of the assistant director on one of the "Hunger Games" films, killed himself with a bullet to the head. Video and a 141-page manifesto have been released relating to the crime. In them, Rodger explains that he had never had a girlfriend and had never had sex. Bbecause of that rejection, he intended to exact revenge, specifically targeting blonde girls.
