Director Joss Whedon (The Avengers) is a Hollywood power player with a massive fan base and a grand visual imagination. When it comes to politics, however, his imagination is reduced to fantasizing about a rhino raping House Speaker Paul Ryan to death with its horn.
You read that right. Whedon's recent tweet wishing a torturous death upon someone whose politics he disagrees with is a marvel of incoherence and violent fantasy that exposes the dark heart of the left's hatred for their political opponents.
Usually, when celebrities take to social media to make a political statement -- like Rosie O'Donnell calling for "martial law" against Trump or Ashley Judd decrying racist emojis -- it's silly or stupid or hysterical or condescending, but they typically rein in their darkest desires.
Then there's this:
Whedon's tweet (which is still up on his Twitter page here, if you wish to leave your respectful opinion about his sick progressive hatred) reads like a belligerent drunk fumbling with his iPhone until the autocorrect accidentally puts the words "f–ck," "rhino," and "death" together with an insult to Paul Ryan. Whedon's ugly message is not a reasoned argument against Paul Ryan's politics; it's not an argument at all. It's just crude, juvenile, violent hatred on full display.
Then there's Whedon's vile insult toward fellow celebrity Nicole Kidman, who dared express the reasonable attitude that we should support Trump because he is our president and that's how democracy works. Doesn't she know that stepping off the progressive plantation is punishable by hateful shunning?
With less than a week before the inauguration, leftists are panicking over the slow, terrifying realization that Donald Trump, not Barack Obama, is about to become our president. Until then, Joss Whedon and his Hollywood ilk can have their meltdown.
