Black Lives Matter student activists at DePaul University in Chicago stormed onto the stage at a conservative event and threatened violence on speaker Milo Yiannopoulos, who has had more than his fair share of interruptions on college campuses lately.
On Tuesday evening, Yiannopoulos was scheduled to speak at a conservative event when a male BLM activist walked up onto the stage, blowing a whistle and began shouting, "Dump Donald Trump." A female BLM activist joined him, forcefully grabbed the mic from the moderator's hand and threatened Yiannopoulos with a punch to the face.
He posted short videos of the incidents:
Other BLM supporters lined the front of the stage and wouldn't allow the event to continue. Security was on hand but did nothing. Interestingly enough, DePaul made Breitbart and the organizers pay for their own security. The frustrated audience began chanting at them, "Do your job," but refused and stayed at the back of the theater the entire time.
Because of the unrelenting mayhem, Yiannopoulos cut the event short and instead led the conservative students to the president's office on campus to express fear for their safety.
Legal Insurrection reported that filmographer Rebel Pundit (Jeremy Segal) was at the event, collecting footage of the protesters who were gathered outside. But instead of stopping the BLM activists from shutting down and taking over the event, police decided to arrest Segal for filming and placed him in jail until he was released at 3 a.m. the next morning. LI promised to update its story with more info about the charges as becomes available.
The ringleader of the takeover, Edward Ward, has now spoken to Heat Street and is unrepentant of his group's actions. He stated that Yiannopoulos's views are "hate speech" and added the ridiculous claim that they are responsible for the Charleston church shooting.
Ward is not backing down and said he will continue shutting down these events. However, he doesn't view this as an attack on free speech, but an attack on "hate speech." Ward felt his safety was in jeopardy Tuesday night because of the "ignorance" of the viewpoints:
"When I went, I was open to listen to what was being said, I was open to listen and try to understand. But when it’s coming from a point of ignorance, when you make these blatant statements about feminists, when you make blatant statements about the LGBTQ community, when you make statements about black people – then it becomes a problem, because when you use this kind of hatred people like us end up dead. You get Charleston. These are what you get as a result of his type of speech and rhetoric.”
The unidentified female onstage with Ward ranted that she has been silenced "for 200 years." That must be why she screamed at Yiannopoulos and threatened him with physical violence. Of course, he had a quip of his own in asking her how she "looked so young."
Ward summarized his view of the event: “You have a bunch of white people who wanna actually say a bunch of racist s*** and that’s not okay."
When anything other than Black Lives Matter speech is considered hate speech, that's a declaration of war on freedom. And these social justice warriors have fired the first shot.
