On Wednesday, NBC confirmed that country singer Garth Brooks has canceled his scheduled Thanksgiving appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in response to the protests unfolding in Ferguson, Missouri over a grand jury's recent decision to not indict white officer Darren Wilson in the killing of black teenager Michael Brown.

Brooks wrote the following on his Facebook page Wednesday morning:

We landed in NY last night to the news of the civil unrest that was going on in our nation. To spend the day promoting our stuff like nothing was wrong, seemed distasteful to me. I will gladly reschedule any or all appearances the networks will allow. Love one another, g.

In Brooks' place will be Chef Tom Colicchio and strident leftist Whoopi Goldberg.
