CNN's Jake Tapper is one of the few in mainstream media who conducts himself in a more objective and professional fashion than so many of his counterparts. During a recent interview with WMAL, he admitted that when it comes to Donald Trump and his children, there is "some media bias" at play, and certainly a double standard in the way media treats Chelsea Clinton compared to Ivanka Trump.
"Chelsea does fewer interviews and doesn’t do the kind of interviews that subject her to the kinds of tough questions," Tapper qualified before adding, "I think it’s complicated, I think there’s a lot of reasons for it but if somebody says 'part of it is media bias' – I’m not going to disagree with that either."
“Generally speaking, we have all talked about this and - yes, I do think there is some media bias. I think that’s part of a lot of these equations,” Tapper said.
“Another one is that Chelsea Clinton has been in the public eye since she was literally a child and there is a protectiveness about her even though she is now an adult and a mother of two children and married and successful etcetera.”
“Also Eric Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump – are much more out there,” Tapper continued. “They do more interviews, they’re more aggressively engaged in the campaign. I think that’s part of it.”
Tapper was likely being diplomatic in his measured response, and if so that would be understandable given he works for a network beholden to a left-wing agenda and whose other journalists routinely display grossly anti-conservative bias.
That Tapper would at least publicly acknowledge mainstream media bias is a factor today is still a step in the right direction.
