CNN Publishes, Deletes, Retracts Fake News Trump/Russia Story

Who else is surprised they even had "editorial standards" to violate?

On Thursday night, CNN's Thomas Frank published what seemed like a damning report about an investigation of a Russian investment fund that reportedly had connections to President Donald Trump's close associates and friends. The report connected Trump advisor Anthony Scaramucci, a member of the executive committee of Trump's transition team, to the head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund. Since Frank is a Pulitzer Prize finalist in 2012 and since the RDIF is overseen by a state-run bank currently under U.S. sanctions, this was sure to cause much controversy.

Mysteriously,  however, the report was yanked by Friday. This statement alone was left, according to Philly.com:

On June 22, 2017, CNN.com published a story connecting Anthony Scaramucci with investigations into the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

That story did not meet CNN’s editorial standards and has been retracted. Links to the story have been disabled. CNN apologizes to Mr. Scaramucci.

First, who else is surprised to learn that CNN even has editorial standards? Second, note how Scaramucci responded -- with class and dignity:

Of course, this comes at a time when people are rightly suspicious of the news media. President Trump tweeted this, for example, which earned almost 100,000 likes:

Which made CNN's own Chris Cillizza indignantly tweet:

Well, Chris, add this one to the pile of examples.
