Donald Trump’s win on Tuesday night started a fire in the bellies of distraught Californians who are now looking for a path to secede from the Union. Taking a cue from Britain’s Brexit, they are calling it “Calexit.”
The term began trending on Twitter along with the #NotMyPresident shortly after it was clear how the election was turning. A group called Yes California has launched a campaign to put a referendum on the 2018 ballot to exit the nation, New York Daily News reports.
According to Fusion, Silicon Valley elites are also on board with the Calexit, with Uber investor Shervin Pishevar announcing he will be funding a campaign of his own:
Pishevar also sent a letter of resignation from the Fulbright board to President Obama saying he couldn’t serve “with any good conscious” under Trump. He asked other folks of “good conscience” to “resign their political posts.” Other Internet developers tweeted support saying they stand with him.
As TruthRevolt previously reported, San Franciscans took to the streets in protest chanting “not our president” and vandalized several locations. There was a similar scene at Berkeley’s campus where trash cans were ignited and other protests occurred. Many think Bernie Sanders could be the leader of the movement:
There are also reports that teachers and students at Berkeley High School staged walkouts to declare #NotMyPresident:
The kids shouted, “F*** Donald Trump” as they walked through the streets:
