Billionaire and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg spoke with CNN's Christiane Amanpour and unleashed a tirade against "right-wing crazies," like Ted Cruz, Ben Carson, and any who deny the "science" on climate change.
"There are very few wealthy Americans who are saying climate change is a Commie plot," Bloomberg began, obviously excluding himself.
"Even the right-wing crazies," he added, "no longer say climate change isn't real. They say, 'It's natural, it's not man-made.'"
The reason? He says, with confidence, that their towns are now experiencing "floods where they had droughts," and "droughts where they had floods." Oh, and "tornadoes," he added. Yes, those things that are natural and have occurred at irregular intervals for eons but are now happening because of man, according to Bloomberg. Science!
Denying that these natural occurrences are the product of man-made global warming is just what these Republicans say to "cater to a handful of crazies," Bloomberg added.
Amanpour, trying to distance herself from his continual use of that word, said, "Well, your word is 'crazies.' What do you make of the Republican presidential candidates who deny the climate science?"
Here is his full response, and his opportunity to go after a couple of really smart guys, especially one who used science to save lives:
There's one of them who was a surgeon, unfortunately, at Johns Hopkins who doesn't believe in science. Somebody said that's like a business executive that doesn't believe in profits.
You gotta guy like Ted Cruz who, I think [Alan] Dershowitz said was the smartest law student he ever had, and he says some of the stupidest things I've ever heard. The only explanation -- the only explanation -- is, he doesn't believe it, he's just saying it. Ted Cruz is a smart guy and you can't say what he says in an intelligent way.
