Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) appeared on CNN's Crossfire with Newt Gingrich and Van Jones. Jones asked Bachmann about the potential presidential candidacy of Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and whether as a populist she could pull Republican votes in red states. Bachmann disagreed with the premise and then said, "I think she would be an extremely attractive candidate for Democrat voters in 2016."
"If she chooses to mount a run for the presidency, I would agree with Newt, I think that, if I was Mrs. Clinton, I'd be extremely concerned with what I see," Bachmann said. "And it's interesting, what I'm seeing in all of the national journals, it's a swoon fest right now over Elizabeth Warren. They're salivating over her, because she represents a very progressive view. People want to go that direction. And I think there could be trouble."
The "swoon fest" comment certainly seems to be accurate with the large amount of attention given to the "Ready For Warren" campaign which launched earlier this week in conjunction with the far-left Netroots Nation conference in Detroit.
As The Huffington Post swoons:
An enthusiastic band of activists has launched a campaign to slow the momentum of Hillary Clinton and convince Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) that she should run for president in 2016.
"I think there's an opportunity for us to convince her if we're really able to make the case as to why we think she's the right person," said Erica Sagrans, who has signed on as the Ready For Warren campaign manager.
The group already has a Facebook page, Twitter account and a new website with a petition encouraging Warren to run.
