FBI Director James Comey was fired on Tuesday just days after testifying before Congress with news that Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin had shared classified e-mails with her then-husband Anthony Weiner. 

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said, “The president has accepted the recommendation of the attorney general and the deputy attorney general regarding the dismissal of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

A replacement is currently being sought.

Comey served under George W. Bush as deputy attorney general and was appointed to the FBI as director by President Obama — a post that would’ve lasted six more years.

Comey has had a rocky relationship with Republicans over his refusal to prosecute Hillary Clinton for her use of a private e-mail server as Secretary of State. Even Clinton herself has blamed Comey for making her lose the election. Comey also failed to prove the claim that President Trump colluded with the Russians to win the election.

The firing will be good news for Trump voters who wanted to see him “drain the swamp” and they will no doubt be asking what took so long.

Today, President Donald J. Trump informed FBI Director James Comey that he has been terminated and removed from office. President Trump acted on the clear recommendation of both Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Session.

“The FBI is one of the Nation’s most cherished and respected institutions and today will mark a new beginning for our crown jewel of law enforcement,” said President Trump.

A search for a new permanent FBI Director will begin immediately.
