The latest episode of Supergirl – "Welcome to Earth" – openly trashed "America's xenophobic right" while advocating open borders for all illegal immigrants -- even ones from other planets, which gives "illegal aliens" a very literal meaning. 

Featuring former Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter as President Olivia Marsdin, the episode undoubtedly paid homage to a possible Hillary Clinton presidency by having her character promote open borders to the most extreme degree.

"If you thought giving amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants in America was crazy, try giving amnesty to ANY alien that shows up on Earth," Newsbusters wrote of the episode. "According to the president’s Alien Amnesty Act of 2016, all aliens will be 'granted the full rights and privileges of American citizens.'" 

In another (saner) world, Madame President Marsdin would be a naive simpleton that Kara/Supergirl would have to set straight. That doesn't happen here. As it turns out, the show's heroine fully supports the initiative, even though almost every alien in the show besides herself has been up to no good. One character in the show even remarks she can count the number of good aliens they know on one hand "with two fingers to spare."

Nevertheless, the show goes on to denounce those opposed to President Marsdin's law when Kara/Supergirl "writes a biased report about business owner Lena Luthor, who is against amnesty, being tied to 'America's xenophobic right,' the country’s 'lowest common denominator.'"

Usually, in order for allegory of this sort to work, there needs to be some level of emotional credibility to the characters' motivations in the given conflict. To reduce them to mouthpieces making highly nonsensical proposals, things that even the real Hillary Clinton probably wouldn't support, is the laziest form of storytelling this side of James Cameron's dreadful Avatar.
