The support for ground troops in the campaign against the Islamic State is growing. In February, a CBS poll found that 55% of Americans approving of the limited use of ground troops, with 39% opposing. A new Quinnipiac poll found the number supporting the use of troops has now risen 7 points to 62%, with opposition dropping by 9 to 30%.

The Quinnipiac poll follows another string of atrocities committed by ISIS, including mass beheadings of Egyptian Christians in Libya, the death of American captive Kayla Mueller, and the abduction of nearly 100 Syrian Christians. Bloomberg reports:

By a wide margin, Americans voters support sending ground troops to fight Islamic State militants in Iraq and Syria, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

Sixty-two percent said they support boots on the ground, while 30 percent said they do not. The response comes after well-publicized deaths of the group's hostages, including the American captive Kayla Mueller, and the revelation that a militant in their beheading videos known as “Jihadi John” came from a well-educated, middle-class background in the U.K.

The polls also found that Americans remain strongly opposed to paying ransoms for hostages, with 72% saying the government should never agree to pay in ransom situations.
