A powerful new ad for the NRA features a young, black woman declaring her freedom from victimhood and taking a stand for the protections offered by the Second Amendment.
Antonia Okafor is a firearms instructor and Southwest Regional Director of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus and represents a growing trend among women who are exercising their right to bear arms. She reveals the ugly things that she has been called for going against the grain and rising above what has been "expected" of her as a black woman.
"You don't speak for me, and you don't think for me," Okafor says in the ad. "I am not the victim you need me to be, and I’m talking to more women like me every single day."
This is the latest in the NRA's "I'm Freedom's Safest Place" series. Her message is clear: listen to no one who says that the Second Amendment doesn't apply in modern times or that every person doesn't have a right to defend him- or herself:
I’ve been told that black women aren’t supposed to support the Second Amendment.
I’ve been told I shouldn’t want to be able to protect myself…
Thank God I didn't listen.
