There has been widespread outrage in Austria over government plans to construct concrete walls around the top state buildings in the heart of Vienna. The anti-terror walls, capable of withstanding truck bombings, will encircle the President’s office and other key government ministries and departments.
The construction of the wall was reportedly initiated by Austria’s left-wing President Van der Bellen. During last year’s presidential campaign, the mainstream media glaringly described him as a “pro-refugee environmentalist.” Since his election, President Van der Bellen has been busy pushing his radical leftist agenda.
The fact that the country’s government had no money to build a border fence to stop the flow of illegal migrants and Islamist operatives, but has been shelling out huge sums to convert the government district into a bomb-proof bunker, has enraged many. “This is outrageous. There was no money for the border fence, but now the lordships at the government quarters are bunkering up,” noted an angry reader in the comment’s section of the leading Austrian newspaper, Kronen Zeitung. The newspaper reported the public reaction to the President’s anti-terror wall :
The expensive wall [that is designed to withstand] an explosive-laden truck, has now been christened: it’s called the Bigwig-Limes [referring to the ‘limes’ line of defense deployed by ancient Romans]. The Bigwig-Limes is being interpreted as a proof of dishonesty of the Federal Government with regards to its statements about the real state of security in Austria.
Many of our readers are urging to stop the construction of the structure made from reinforce concrete in the center of Vienna, a place of the historical value: the 80cm tall barrier and 70 security bollards “won’t be of much use and are going to disfigure the look of the city.” In our readers’ section some asked: “Why the government was so scared, all of a sudden? What has changed since 2015? [pointing to the Europe’s Open Borders Policy that has been in place since the part two years]
In reality, the security concept was developed in 2015, reportedly after the first terror attacks with trucks. The actual demand for two walls came from the President’s office, which then undertook the construction of the wall, our sources in domestic intelligence agency report. [Translation by the Author]
Van der Bellen, former leader of the ecological Green Party, who narrowly defeated right-wing candidate Norbert Hofer in a hotly-contested election last year, is known for his leftist migrant policy. The President takes pride in calling himself “a child of refugees,” alluding to the fact that his parents fled Soviet-occupied Estonia to escape the Stalinist purges. Ironically enough, 73-year-old Van der Bellen spent the heydays of the Cold War campaigning for the “unilateral disarmament” of the West. Many of those involved in this movement have since been outed as KGB agents. Right after the fall of the Soviet Union, Socialist Von der Bellen joined Austria’s Green Party and eventually became its leader. During one of the presidential debates, the rival candidate went on record, calling him a “Spy for the East Block,” citing the memoirs of the former chief of Austria’s security agency, which feature Van der Bellen’s Cold War activities multiple times.
Earlier this year, Van der Bellen told “every woman” in Austria to “wear a headscarf” in order to fight the growing “Islamophobia” in the country.
As it turns out, the “pro-refugee” “Islamophobia” warrior Van der Bellen was the first to duck when the Islamic terrorist attacks began hitting one European city after another -- in the wake of the self-inflicted migrant crisis.
Van der Bellen personifies the typical European Liberal elite. All the empty talk of "Building Bridges Not Walls" evaporates the moment the proverbial crap hits the fan. These professional virtue-signalers won’t let a dime of public money go toward building a border fence to protect ordinary citizens from Islamist infiltrators and migrant criminals -- because that would be ‘racist’ -- but spare no expense in building state-of-the-art walls to protect their own skin at the taxpayers’ expense.
