Everyone was expecting a lot of awkward moments during the Oscars tonight, but who would have guessed one of the most cringe-inducing moments would occur before they even began?
In audience interviews before the show kicked off, Mark Ruffalo may have taken home the award for the most awkward with the above moment.
"Yeah, the, the uh, theres the Oscars so White this year and that's, um, that's a real issue. And I think it's time for our country to have this discussion in an earnest way. It's happening in the criminal justice system, the education system, it should be happening here in the Hollywood. Who else to represent the needs of these people than their fellow liberals?"
Well doesn't that just about sum up everything you already know about liberals and how they see race issues. They're here to speak for "these people." Oh Ross Perot, you were just ahead of your time, apparently. And in the wrong business.
The best part, though, was Good Morning America host Robin Roberts, who simply said "I think we'll end on that note."
Did we say awkward yet? So awkward.
