“The Republicans who run this Congress aren’t doing their jobs,” President Obama said during his Saturday weekly address, calling it “a theme” that has popped up pretty regularly over the hundreds of addresses he has made.

“Congress recently returned from a seven-week vacation,” Obama continued. “They’ve only got two weeks left until their next one, but there’s a lot of business they need to get done first.”

The president listed the three things he would like them to do: Zika funding, provide resources to those stricken by the recent flood in Louisiana and the water contamination in Flint, and lastly, hold a hearing for his Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland. But wait, there’s more:

“There are plenty other bipartisan priorities they should finish this year, too. Passing criminal justice reform. Attacking the opioids epidemic. Funding Joe Biden’s cancer moonshot. Finishing a Trans-Pacific trade agreement that will support American jobs and boost American wages. And passing a budget that will make sure all of America’s priorities are funded without resorting to shutdown threats and last-minute gimmicks.”

“By the way, it’s been almost a decade since Congress voted to raise the minimum wage,” Obama added.

The president said none of this should be controversial and should be everyone’s top priority. He implored them to “do their jobs,” which apparently is “protect[ing] us from disease, help[ing] us recover from disaster, keep[int] the Supreme Court above politics, and help[ing] our businesses grow and hire.”

And as the president has been out campaigning for Hillary Clinton recently, he ended with a reminder to vote in November.

“Our government only works as well as the people we elect and that’s entirely up to you,” he said.

On that last point, we concur.
