New York City's former three-term Mayor Michael Bloomberg knows exactly what Paris needs in this time of mourning after the worst terrorist attack there in decades: a climate change summit.
The December 4th event (UN's Climate Summit for Local Leaders) has long been anticipated for President Obama and his friends, but Bloomberg's timing to promote it in such a way is more than questionable. But then again, they are a group of people that believes the rise in global temperatures is directly proportional to the rise in global terrorism.
Bloomberg sent out the following tweet:
It linked to a letter he wrote Monday -- "Why the Paris Climate Summit is Now More Important than Ever." Bloomberg was in the City of Love hours before the attacks. He was meeting with Mayor Anne Hidalgo to discuss the upcoming summit. As he witnessed first-hand the horror that gripped the city, he made a personal pledge to the mayor to "do everything possible to convince the global community of local leaders to express its solidarity with Paris and the people of France by attending the Summit."
And that is exactly what he is doing. In his letter, he reminded everyone that he was elected mayor only two months after the September 11th terrorist attacks in New York City, so he knows how to relate to this situation. He writes that the personal visits from people around the world was what meant so much to him and he wants to show how Paris could benefit from the same -- and while they're at it, talk about climate change.
"There is no better opportunity for mayors to support the people of Paris than by accepting Mayor Hidalgo’s invitation to attend the summit," Bloomberg states. "Cities face many common challenges, and overcoming them requires us to stand together – and that’s why the summit in Paris is now more important than ever."
