On ABC's This Week, George Stephanopoulos asked New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio for a reaction to Rudy Giuliani's recent comments regarding black-on-black crime being a major factor in how police deal with the black community.

"I think he fundamentally misunderstands reality," de Blasio said.

Last Sunday on Fox News, Giuliani said the black community should take more responsibility in helping to reduce police violence. De Blasio took exception to this statement and said these accusations are not going to help solve anything.

"We're trying to bring police and community together," de Blasio told Stephanopoulos. "In fact," he added, "I think everyone is trying to do their job."

De Blasio's solutions to the problem focuses on police. He listing the following solutions in moving forward: body cameras and retraining police to "use less-violent approaches" and "work more closely with the community."

The mayor concluded:

Of course communities want to keep themselves safe. Of course parents want to teach their children to be law abiding. Of course police are protecting us.

But let's face it, a lot of voices from both ends of the spectrum want to keep us mired in a history that hasn't worked for us.
