Monday night, Jon Stewart of The Daily Show aimed his snarky gaze at an unfamiliar target: rich Democrats who accuse Republicans of being the "party of the rich" while simultaneously accepting millions upon millions in campaign donations from extremely wealthy people.

In the segment titled "Funding or Die," Stewart pulled no punches and gave the Democratic party a beating most typically given to Republicans. The segment began with Stewart playing several news clips from notable Democrats Nancy Pelosi and John Kerry, both lamenting about the abuse of "money in politics" and the circumventing of our democracy. Stewart noted the strange irony that a man like Kerry would be complaining about money in politics while simultaneously being married to a millionaire heiress to the Heinz fortune.

Moving on, Stewart highlighted that in all the major Senate races, liberal groups have outspent conservative groups $97 million to $79 million. Stewart referred to this hypocrisy as Democrats saying "thou shall not kill, but if you're going to..." 

More surprising were Stewart's shots at President Obama and his recent visit to the homes of Gwyneth Paltrow and billionaire Rich Richman.

"It may not be the best way to send a message about your contempt for money in politics," said Stewart, "with back-to-back fundraisers from the homes of lady goop and, literally, a man named Richie Rich."

The segment concluded with some funny references to the Democratic Party's quirky emails that always seem to ask for more money despite having such bizarre headlines such as "All Hope Is Lost" while creepily saying "our records indicate" that the recipient has not donated yet.
