It Was a Warm Christmas in 1955, Too

We are all dreaming of a white (no offense intended) Christmas (sorry, holiday).

Warmer weather swept through the South Wednesday, spawning several deadly tornadoes and making it seem as if we are heading into spring, not winter.

These warmer temperatures have caused some to point the finger at climate change, while others -- namely Bill Nye, the "science" guy -- are angry that meteorologists are refraining from using the term in their weather reports.

Maybe it's because astute meteorologists look through the historical records of temperature and find that this warming "phenomenon" isn't all that alarming.

The blog Real Science explains:

Christmas Eve 1955 was much warmer. Three-fourths of the country was over 60 degrees, and Ashland Kansas,  Geary Oklahoma and Encinal Texas were all over 90 degrees. Fort Lauderdale was 85 degrees.

It is noted that Orlando, Florida is the only city approaching 86 degrees this year. But last year, when it was really cold, climate changers were mum:

Last winter, the East Coast had record cold. That was ignored because it was “less than 1% of the Earth.”  But this week, the Eastern US defines the global climate.

Ah, when it fits the narrative… got it.

So, as we are all in shorts and wishing for a "White Christmas," which is now offensive because of all of its unchecked privilege, just remember: this is exactly what they were dreaming of back in the 50s:

In Irving Berlin’s 1954 musical “White Christmas” – the story line was 70 degrees in Vermont on Christmas eve and no snow. That was why they were “Dreaming of a White Christmas”

The more things change, the more they stay the same.
