In an opinion piece for National Review Friday, David Horowitz lays out what he calls the “treachery” of the Obama presidency, including deliberately setting out to lose the war in Iraq, legitimizing the Muslim Brotherhood, and empowering Putin by creating a power vacuum. “Since his election in 2009,” writes Horowitz, “Obama’s policies have been responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people and will result in the deaths of tens of thousands more.” So why, asks Horowitz, do Republicans continue to treat Obama “as though his were a normal presidency and not a national disgrace?”
Horowitz begins by charging Obama with deliberately setting out to lose the war in Iraq, defying his joint chiefs of staff over the keeping 20,000 troops in the country and thus leaving Iraq to “its own devices and the tender mercies of Iran.” “In so doing,” Horowitz argues, "he betrayed every American and Iraqi who gave their lives to create a free Iraq and keep it out of the clutches of the terrorists.”
Horowitz blames Obama's administration for helping spawn ISIS by endorsing the “animal” Bashar Assad as a man of “peace” and “reformer” and aiding him in the defeat his opposition. “The Islamic State was born out of the Syrian chaos that ensued," he concludes.
But, “far worse,” Horowitz argues, is Obama’s open support of the Muslim Brotherhood—“America’s mortal enemy” and forebear of Hamas and al-Qaeda. In the “Arab Spring,” writes Horwoitz, Obama abused America’s authority and resources to legitimize the terrorist organization:
During the Brotherhood’s brief tenure as the government in Egypt Obama gave these genocidal zealots more than a billion dollars in American aid and F-16 fighter bombers that could easily reach Israel’s major population centers, which for 60 years the Brotherhood had sworn to destroy.
Horowitz also highlights then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s key role in the legitimization campaign, as she offered “totally unfounded assurances to the world that the Brotherhood was ready to become part of the democratic process and give up its 90-year holy war against infidels, Jews in particular but also—and explicitly—America.”
Obama’s “feckless interventions in the Middle East,” Horowitz writes, also helped foster the current mess in Libya, where terrorists now control the state, forcing many to flee the country, like the thousands of non-Muslims fleeing northern Iraq thanks to his mishandling of America’s exit.
The ascendance of Putin Horowitz also lays at Obama’s feet, saying Obama's “aversion to America’s role as a keeper of international peace" allowed Putin "to swallow Crimea and threaten the rest of Ukraine.”
Horowitz makes clear there's no question that Obama will continue the same policies that “have been responsible for the deaths of tens of thousands of people and will result in the deaths of tens of thousands more.” The real question, Horowitz writes, is “Where is the Republican opposition?” They have shown “some fight” with Benghazi, but what of all these other “treacheries”?:
Why are Republicans still treating Obama as though his were a normal presidency and not a national disgrace? Why are there no indictments of Obama for the carnage he has enabled?[...] When will Republicans gather the courage to start speaking truth to power?
