Valentine's Day is approaching and the ad masters at Hallmark have a new campaign offering a glimpse into a budding lesbian relationship to promote their "Put Your Heart to Paper" cards.
In the two-minute ad that asks, "Watch what happens when you go beyond 'I love you,'" Eugenia and Corinna separately describe how they met two years ago; each expresses their feelings for one another without using the word "love." They are later brought together to hear what the other said as their emotions swell.
One admonition, though, can be found in the comments section on YouTube. Hallmark writes:
Thanks for checking out the video! Just an FYI that we will be deleting comments that use hate language or attack other commenters.
The other six ads in the series, which do not include the above admonition, feature heterosexual couples ranging from young love to a couple married for 56 years.
Hallmark's decision to prominently display homosexual relationships in its ad campaign follows the trend of other companies who have recently done the same, including Nabisco and Tiffany & Co.
