Both CNN and NBC News purposefully left out a key word from an interview with Hillary Clinton shortly after New York City was hit with a terrorist attack on Saturday night, in order to make a statement against Donald Trump who outright called it a “bomb” and implored the nation to “get tough.”

Over the weekend, NBC News created a video comparing both Clinton and Trump’s reaction to the terror attack. NBC introduced its video with, “Presidential candidates Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton each gave very different responses to the explosion in New York City on Saturday night, Sept. 17, 2016. [emphasis theirs].” 

Trump had just touched down before addressing a crowd in Colorado Springs, where he said:

“Just before I got off the plane, a bomb went off in New York and nobody knows exactly what’s going on. But, boy, we are living in a time — we better get very tough, folks. We better get very, very tough…

“It’s a terrible thing that’s going on in our world and in our country. And we are going to get tough and smart and vigilant.”

Now Hillary, who arrived in NYC on the night of the attack and from aboard her plane was asked by a reporter, “Secretary Clinton, do you have any reaction to the fact that Donald Trump immediately upon taking the stage tonight called the explosion a “bomb” in New York?”

Clinton said, “Well, I think it’s important to know the facts about any incident like this. That’s why it’s critical to support the first responders, the investigators, who are looking into it who are trying to determine what did happen.”

Except she did! NBC News just edited that part out. Here's her full statement:

“I’ve been briefed about the bombings in New York and New Jersey and the attack in Minnesota. Obviously, we need to do everything we can to support our first responders, also pray for the victims. We have to let this investigation unfold…”

But NBC wasn’t alone in pushing a false narrative. CNN played along, too. In an interview on Sunday’s State of the Union with Jake Tapper, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie was asked to respond to a similar query.

Tapper believed there was a “contrast” with how the two candidates spoke about the bombings, with Trump commenting just moments after the incident before local officials determined what happened, whereas Clinton “waited hours” to hear from law enforcement before making a statement. Tapper then played the clip with the edited quote.

Christie responded, telling Tapper that Trump stated the obvious that it was a bomb, just like everyone knew and was being reported in NY.
