Chris Matthews Claims Chris Christie is Channeling Richard Nixon

"The minute he heard about the bridge closing, he may well, this is conjecture, have known this is the kind of thing I wanted my people doing. "

A frequently used bias tactic of the progressive media is to provide a fake context to a story which makes the principal look bad while slipping in a quick disclaimer of "this is all conjecture." But in the end, the audience remembers the fake story, without the caveat. Chris Matthew did that Wednesday, on the Andrea Mitchell Show.

Discussing Chris Christie and the Bridgegate scandal, Matthews explained the entire thought process of Richard Nixon during Watergate. He then suggested that the NJ Governor went through the exact same process with Bridgegate and slipped in the part about conjecture to cover his bases.

With that little strategy Matthews was trying to tie Christie to the "mother of all presidential scandals," which was much worse than what Christie is dealing with today.

I hate to go back to Watergate, and Bridgegate, it's too easy. But I do think there's a lot here about Nixon. Nixon never ordered the Watergate break-in by any evidence, but he did order the break-in of Brookings as we know in great detail and later ordered a break-in of the Republican headquarters so it would look like the Democrats had done it. All that's on tape. So the M.O., if you will was established by Nixon so his people Halderman, Ehrlichman and the rest of them knew what he wanted done, or certainly would have supported. Then he got caught with Watergate, and he knew -- hey, I didn't order Watergate but I ordered this other stuff. My God, this looks like my guys did this. That may have been on Christie’s mind from day one. The minute he heard about the bridge closing, he may well, this is conjecture, have known this is the kind of thing I wanted my people doing. I never ordered them, I’m covered, as long as i don't talk to them, I’ll never be blamed for it, so I’m going to keep radio silence.
