Appearing on HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher Friday night, Nancy Pelosi said, "civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if the Republicans win the Senate."

"Oh, this and ISIS are threatening civilization," replied Maher jokingly.

Pelosi was responding to the host saying that Republicans are predicted to take the Senate in the upcoming elections -- and to his asking "who cares?" The Senate is already gridlocked and Republicans have the filibuster, so what would change, he asked. Well, apparently to Pelosi, all life as we know it:

It would be very important for the Democrats to retain control of the Senate. Civilization as we know it today would be in jeopardy if the Republicans win the Senate. Yeah, no, it's really important. But let's not wed ourselves to a stipulation that we're not going to win the Senate, let's instead work really hard.

Pelosi argued that turnout is the key to winning elections and furthered that when women show up to the polls and vote, "America succeeds." But Maher pointed out that women and minorities don't show up to vote. "All the people who have been helped by the things the Democrats have done, they are the least likely to come out and vote." He added that no one from this group comes out for a "thank-you vote" for providing them health care, but that only angry folks head to the polls.

Yet, Pelosi assured that the Democrats aren't the party of fear, laying out this whopper:

Fear is a motivator and we are not fearmongers. The Democrats are messengers of hope and that's what we will continue to be.

To no one's surprise, the audience was delighted by Pelosi's comments.

By the end, Maher lobbed this jaw-dropping stunner at his guest, comparing her to Margaret Thatcher:

I'm sure glad you're succeeding, because in my view, you are America's Iron Lady.
