Around 3,000 demonstrators showed up in near-freezing, rainy weather to shut down a large stretch of Chicago's Michigan Avenue – the “Magnificent Mile”– on Black Friday, the busiest shopping day of the year, to protest the shooting of black teen Laquon McDonald, reports Lee Stranahan at Breitbart.

The 17-year-old, armed with a knife, was shot 16 times and killed by police officer Jason Van Dyke over a year ago. Recently released video of the shooting has sparked outrage not only because it showed that McDonald was actually walking away from police at the time Van Dyke opened fire, but also because the damning video footage was apparently kept under wraps until after Rahm Emanuel secured his re-election as mayor of Chicago earlier this year.

Protesters included members of the Nation of Islam, which was marching under the banner of “Justice of Else”; RevCom, the Revolutionary Communist Party, and the Rev. Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow PUSH coalition. They began marching at Michigan and Wacker Drive and headed north, blocking and effectively shutting down stores for over six blocks, including Macy’s, H&M, and others. They shouted “16 shots!” and “No justice, no shopping!”

Protesters attempted to gain access to major department stores and shopping malls, but a police presence of hundreds of officers turned them away.
