Across the country, in cities like New York and St. Louis, young African-American males have been targeting Jews and whites in a dangerously violent "knockout game" where unsuspecting pedestrians are suddenly beaten by a gang of passersby, resulting in severe concussions and, in some cases, death.

Amateur videos of the game -- also called "Polar Bear Hunting" and "Knock the Jew" for its selective targeting of white and Jewish ethnicities -- have largely been filmed and posted online by the perpetrators themselves, typically accompanied with gangs of youths laughing jovially as their helpless victim collapse on the concrete. One youth can even be heard uttering, "White girl bleed a lot!"

In an article for the New York Post Tuesday, author Thomas Sowell stated these attacks are "nothing new" and have been ongoing for quite some time in various inner cities. According to Sowell, the public has remained fairly ignorant to these incidents because most media outlets have been reporting them as "isolated attacks" without racial descriptors: 

Sometimes the attacks are reported, but only as isolated attacks by unspecified 'teens' or 'young people' against unspecified victims, without any reference to the racial makeup of the attackers or the victims — and with no mention of racial epithets by the young hoodlums exulting in their own 'achievement.'

Sowell cites sheer "political correctness" or fear of "inciting a race war" as the chief motivations for the media's failure to report the facts.

To test Sowell's theory, TR traveled back in time to survey top media outlets when stories broke of Jews being attacked from November 12 to the present. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, and MSNBC all ignored the story, except for a brief two-minute segment on CNN's New Day which ignored race completely.

On the Record with Greta Van Susteren reported first Monday, November 18 in a two-minute segment where she first condemned the crimes as she relayed brutal footage of unruly teens slugging a school teacher unconscious in Pittsburgh, then went on to state the following:

I know this is a very touchy topic, because the game is regrettably popular amongst unsupervised African-American teens. No one wants to get near the topic of race. We also can't run from this one. People are getting hurt and murdered, even those living in these communities. They have a right to be safe, and they don't have to live in fear of having their children hurt or even poisoned by ugly peer pressure, right? This game has to be condemned, and in order for any impact to happen whatsoever, it has to come from important role models to these young teens. I beg of Rev. Jesse Jackson, Rev. Al Sharpton, and even President Obama to step up, right now, and speak out. Your silence will speak volumes, but your voice could make a big difference. Don't wait. Be leaders, they need you. We need you...

The following Tuesday night, Susteren reported on the subject again, this time focusing on the anti-Semitic motives behind the attacks and even referencing Thomas Sowell's article in the New York Post.

More disturbing news. New York City police say thugs are now targeting Jewish people. Police say there have been a recent knockout attacks, singling out people in the Jewish committee. As I pointed out last night, the knockout game is not reported on enough. Today, the "New York Post" also reported the mainstream media usually suppresses news about this knockout game and other orchestrated racial violence. As I said last night, young teens need role models and I am calling on those role models: Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, and even President Obama to speak out against the deadly game.

Later that Tuesday night, Bill O'Reilly also dedicated a fairly lengthy segment to the incident when he invited conservative commentator Bernie Goldberg to explain why the "knockout game" crimes haven't received national attention. Goldberg stated the following:

It's savagery. It's difficult watch those tapes. As far as the media is concerned, if I can get to that the reason, most of the people watching us tonight are probably shocked by watching these videos and don't knowing anything about them, because as you rightly said, they are getting little attention. No attention that we could find in the New York Times or the Washington Post or the evening newscasts. I think there is a reason for this, it's not a journalistic reason...Let's imagine that what we are seeing here is white kids attacking black people. That in cities like St. L.ouis and Washington, Milwaukee, and New York. Young white kids got together and said 'let's start this game, we will call it the knockout'. They go around, and some black guy is coming home from work, and out of blue they just hit him in the face as hard as they can, and he goes down, and then, their idiotic white friends giggle about it like a bunch of hyenas and then post it on the internet. That would obviously be a national news story because it's orchestrated racial violence.

Later in the segment, Bill O'Reilly invited on African-American Fox News contributor Rev. Jacques Degraff to hear his thoughts about the crime. O'Reilly asked why young black men would be committing such atrocious crimes. Here was the exchange:

Degraff: There are many alienated black youth in America, and then there are many alienated youth in America. In the African-American community there are people who are doing things address it. you just don't hear about it.

O'Reilly: I don't know how effective it's being with the the crime stats the way they are...Do these people, in your experience, know right from wrong?

Degraff: I think they know right from wrong. They are angry. They are alienated, and like other alienated youth, they are acting out...I don't pretend to know what's going on in the mind of a 14-year-old.

Sean Hannity even covered the story Tuesday night for a four-minute segment featuring retired NYPD Detective Bo Dietl who said this:

This is being suppressed by the liberal news media. It is gangs of black youths attacking whites. It is called 'polar bear hunting'. It is called Jews being targeted. that is exactly what it is...It is a race-based thing -- black youth against the white individuals. Not even against the men, it is against women, defenseless people. They hit them in the face and try to knock them out. My problem is, they have to take this crime and characterize it the way it is supposed to be characterized...It is black on white crime, that is racism.

Greta Van Susteren reported on the incident for a third-time Wednesday night. She conducted a seven-minute interview with an actual victim of the "knockout game" named Phoebe Connolly who recounted her story of being hit while biking in Washington D.C.

Outside of Fox News, only CNN's New Day ran a brief two-minute segment Tuesday morning, but did not mention the suspects' race, referring to them as "kids", "juveniles", and "teens." They also did not mention the anti-semitic motives behind the attacks and NYPD's labeling them a potential hate-crime.

ABC World News with Dianne Sawyer, CBS Evening News with Scott Pelley, NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams mentioned plenty about JFK's assassination and the Gettysburg Address, but were absolutely silent when it came to the racially-motivated attacks.

On MSNBC, the entire prime-time lineup starting with Al Sharpton at 6 PM (ET) and ending with Lawrence O'Donnell at 10 PM did not mention the "knockout game" once. Instead, much of their broadcasts were dedicated to defending Oprah Winfrey's recent comments on the BBC, where she stated Americans oppose Obama only because he's black, and celebrating George Zimmerman's recent arrest. Al Sharpton even made George Zimmerman the subject of a 13-minute lead Tuesday night. "Knock the Jew" somehow never made the lineup.
