Video captured a black man verbally accosting FERGUSON playwright Phelim McAleer after viewing a recent showing of the play in Los Angeles. 

"We've got a professional theater here, and then we have the likes of you come in with this kind of sh*t," the man said.

McAleer's play is Verbatim Theatre; the entire show is the literal wording of the Ferguson Grand Jury testimony in the case of the shooting death of Michael Brown. But to this audience member, McAleer's "agenda" and "opinion" was clear as he accused the play of  cherry-picking from the testimony.

The man also had a problem that McAleer is Irish and is trying to add his voice to an apparently black-only issue. He tells McAleer that he was once in Dublin in 1980 when the city was under threat and witnessed "Irishmen dying for something important." He then said, "I would've never been so presumptuous as to think that I could do something to illuminate what was going on."

The man gives a little of his own background:

I'm from Ferguson. I grew up next door to Ferguson. So, Mr. Irishman, I'm glad you think you can shed some kind of light on something.

McAleer: So, as an Irishman, I'm not allowed to write about [inaudible]

Audience Member: Not this one… You cherry-picked what you thought -- you cherry-picked from 5,000 pages what you thought would make the point. And that's okay. That's okay for you to do. 

McAleer: Have you read the Grand Jury testimony?

AM: No, I haven't. But it's clear...

McAleer: So, you don't know what you're talking about.

AM: No, no -- but it's clear you have an opinion and an agenda and that's what that's about.

It is suspected that the man from the video is actor John Cothran. According to his IMDB page, Cothran was born in St. Louis and is known for his roles in Boyz n the Hood and Jim Carrey's Yes Man.

This incident follows other criticism of McAleer's play from the media as well as actors quitting the show because of McAleer's "conservative politics."

Wednesday is FERGUSON's last performance at the Odyssey Theatre in Los Angeles.
