The View’s Meghan McCain Confronts Durbin Over Past Lies, He Ignores Her

It’s strange to see someone go after a Democrat on this show.

On Wednesday’s The View, co-host Meghan McCain did what her leftist friends around the table would never do: call out a Democrat for lying. In the video above at around 3:55, she does just that.

When it was McCain’s time to speak, she didn’t hold back:

“You have a history of misrepresenting statements from private White House meetings. And some say that you’ve actually done more harm than good to the DACA deal by revealing what Trump said in his private meeting. Do you think that’s true?”

Durbin claims he heard President Trump call Haiti and Africa “shithole countries” in a private meeting at the White House. Trump denies it, Republican Sen. Tom Cotton denies it, as does Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kierstjen Nielsen. Yet, Durbin isn’t backing down.

But he did back down when McCain called him out on lying about private White House meetings before: he simply ignored it to make room for his political talking points.

Let’s go back to a Politico report from 2013 to remind ourselves how Durbin likes to put words in other people’s mouths:

“In a ‘negotiation’ meeting with the president, one GOP House Leader told [President Obama]: ‘I cannot even stand to look at you,’” Durbin wrote in a post on his Facebook page over the weekend.

However, both the White House and the House speaker’s office denied Durbin’s account of events.

Asked about the post in the White House daily briefing, press secretary Jay Carney said he checked with a participant of the meeting in question.

“I looked into this and spoke with somebody who was in that meeting and it did not happen,” Carney said.

As with his history of lying, Durbin also has a poor history of fessing up and never commented about this further. John Boehner, who was speaker of the House at the time, said, "Sen. Durbin’s accusation is a serious one, and it appears to have been invented out of thin air. The senator should disclose who told him this account of events, retract his reckless allegation immediately, and apologize."

That never happened.

And here we are today, with Democrats taking Durbin for his word and using it to tar and feather the president.

Kudos to McCain for doing what her View pals wouldn’t dream of doing.
