Upcoming Coulter Appearance at USC Drawing Threats Online

Coulter's appearance sparks threats of protest, violence

Ann Coulter is no stranger to hostile environments. The outspoken conservative has had pies thrown at her during speeches and piles of profane comments sent to her on Reddit.

This Sunday she will be speaking at the University of Southern California—an appearance that is generating quite a bit of controversy. A facebook page promoting the appearance was created on October 23rd. Once the campus political assembly promoted it on November 4th, however, the online vitriol began. One commenter wrote:

I’m gonna be really surprised if this women makes it out of USC alive lol. Based upon her ignorance and the amount of hate she’s brought, I expect a riot this Sunday. Not advocating such a thing of course but if it were my decision.”

Other participants in the facebook group responded to some of the negative comments with similarly worded hostilities. Those responses have prompted some talk on campus of a protest for Coulter's appearance.

USC College Republican President Jennifer Massey organized Coulter’s appearance in partnership with the Hancock Park patriots.

Massey knew there was a chance for an issue but had hoped to avoid it:

She was here about 6 years ago and they said that it might happen, but we had hoped that it wouldn’t since College Republicans never protest anything.

Two people who were not affiliated with College Republicans went after them, which caused a problem, and now people are trying to get the event stopped. Their anger is misplaced because it wasn’t members of the College Republicans who attacked the facebook commenters.”

Coulter is in Southern California to promote her new book, Never Trust a Liberal Over Three-Especially a Republican.
