Steinem Says Abortions Can Prevent Global Warming, Compares Trump to Hitler

"Reductio ad Hitlerum": liberals' favorite rhetorical trick.

In 1990, the popular musical group C+C Music Factory recorded a song called, "Things that Make You Go Hmmm," in some prescient hip-hop expectation of this Refinery29 interview of feminist icon Gloria Steinem. The wide-ranging interview is baffling in many ways, but the most inexplicable statement came from the moment she decided to tackle the topic of climate change.

“Listen, what causes climate deprivation is population. If we had not been systematically forcing women to have children they don’t want or can’t care for over the 500 years of patriarchy, we wouldn’t have the climate problems that we have," she said. "That’s the fundamental cause of climate change. Even if the Vatican doesn’t tell us that. In addition to that, because women are the major agricultural workers in the world, and also the carriers of water and the feeders of families and so on, it’s a disproportionate burden.”

Got that? I'll translate it for those of you who haven't consumed the red Kool Aid of liberalism. If more women could have abortions, the weather would be much better. But this is not the only thing that might make a reader go, "hmm." She also talked about Ivanka Trump's feminism, or her perceived lack thereof.

“I saw her being interviewed by Cosmopolitan, and she was asked about her maternity leave policy, but it’s only if you physically give birth. It’s not for adoptive parents, not for fathers. That happens to be the same policy as every authoritarian regime on Earth that I know of, including Hitler’s Germany."

Oops! Steinem just broke Godwin's law, which asserts that "As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Hitler approaches 1" -- that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Hitler or his deeds." Whoever invokes Hitler loses the argument, of course. But liberals apparently haven't been told of this internet adage.

She also laughed when asked if Ivanka was a feminist. “Nobody on earth thinks she’s a feminist, are you kidding me?”
