On the same day Pope Francis arrives in the once-great United States, Senate Democrats continued their genocidal agenda Tuesday by blocking a bill to ban abortion after 20 weeks.

By a vote of 54-42, the bill failed to meet the 60-votes requirement to pass the Senate, which would've been vetoed promptly by President Obama the second it crossed his desk. Much of the desire to bring this bill to the floor stems from tensions raging over defunding Planned Parenthood, which may lead to a government shutdown.  

Ironically, the vote comes on the same day Pope Francis arrives in Washington, which will include an historic speech before congress and a visit to Philadelphia for the World Meeting of Families. Despite the constant drumbeats by the leftist media and decries from the right, Pope Francis has consistently proven to be unequivocally anti-abortion, anti-contraception, anti-euthanasia, and anti-gay marriage, which puts him at major odds with the Democrats.

"We in this chamber are never going to agree completely on the abortion question. But we should at least be able to agree that if an unborn child has reached the point where he or she can feel pain, that child's life deserves protection," Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said.

Senate minority leader Harry Reid blasted the vote, decrying it as an attempt by Republicans to appeal to right-wing extremists.

"By holding today's vote, Republican leaders are pandering to right-wing extremists in the party who are willing to take our government hostage to try to score political points," said Reid.
