Ronn Torossian: Reverend Al Sharpton Pay Your Taxes

As a native New Yorker, I have many opinions about the ever-present Reverend Al Sharpton. While he is now dominating headlines nationally, with media coverage in Ferguson and at home in New York City, he regularly cavorts with Mayor Bill De Blasio, and as The New York Post says he dictates policy to the police commissioner.
Al Sharpton has never been shy from confrontation.  He’s had a history with the Mafia, no one can ever forget the 1988 Tawana Brawley incident, his role in the Crown Heights riots, and so much more. In spite of it all, Rev. Sharpton has never been more powerful – with President Obama hosting him two times in recent months, and he speaks daily to the Mayor of America’s largest city.
When these politicians speak to him, do they ask him about his debt to society?  According to countless media reports, Al Sharpton owes New York state $806,875 and has federal liens for unpaid personal income taxes against him totaling $2.6 million.  His organizations owe millions more – and records indicate a total of $4.7 million in outstanding debt and liens, according to federal and state tax records.
Has Obama or De Blasio demanded Reverend Al Sharpton pay his taxes?  As a New Yorker who owns a PR Agency and attends countless events, I see him all the time all over. I see him at a 5-star hotel dining for breakfast regularly, he works out in a high-end gym, has a black car waiting for him everywhere – does not this man have an obligation to pay his taxes?
It is ridiculous that someone who skirts the law so brazenly is able to openly cavort with leading American political officials.
