An alleged former lover of Orlando nightclub shooter Omar Mateen has claimed that the 29-year-old Islamist massacred 49 people out of revenge, not Islamic terror.
In an interview with Univision, a man identifying himself only as "Miguel" stated that Mateen was "100 percent gay" and that the two carried on a "friends with benefits" relationship after having met through a gay dating app. After having heard some of Mateen's radical Islamist views, Miguel later reported him to the FBI, which the agency confirmed to have taken place. According to Miguel, Mateen unleashed havoc on Pulse nightclub out of revenge for a community that rejected him.
"He adored Latinos, gay Latinos, with brown skin, but he felt rejected. He felt used by them. There were moments in the Pulse nightclub that made him feel really bad. Guys used him. That really affected him," Miguel told Univision. "I believe this crazy horrible thing he did, that was revenge."
Miguel also stated that part of Mateen's alleged vendetta stemmed from a sexual encounter with a Latino man whom he later discovered was HIV positive.
Describing Mateen as a "very sweet guy" who "loved to be cuddled," Miguel never suspected he would carry an attack out like this.
Apparently never did the FBI, despite all the warnings they were given.
