"Should Congress even be handling our budget anymore?"

MSNBC’s Thomas Roberts had a bizarre question to General Barry McCaffrey over the fact that families of slain soldiers are not receiving death benefits thanks to the Obama administration’s intransigence over the government shutdown. “Should Congress even be handling our budget anymore?” Roberts asked, presumably pining away for an executive dictatorship. “Well, of course, it’s a fundamental aspect of our government,” McCaffrey responded, obviously puzzled. “The most powerful tool that Congress has is to approve money expenditures and to limit the amount that government can borrow.”
