France Surrenders: Women in Burkas Future Symbol of Liberty

Even though France has a “problem with Islam.”

In his new book A President Shouldn’t Say This…, Socialist French President Francois Hollande said something he shouldn’t: “The veiled woman of today will become France’s Marianne of tomorrow.”

Marianne is France’s lady liberty, portrayed famously in Eugène Delacroix’s painting Liberty Leading the People. She is revered as a national symbol; an allegory for the republic and its virtues. Marianne’s image graces halls of government and France’s currency.

With that, Hollande’s declaration in his book has created much controversy, with many conservatives in the country crying, “Marianne will never wear the Islamic veil!” Some believe Hollande is attempting to woo Muslim votes for next year’s election.

However, the president said his comments were taken out of context and suggested he meant Muslim women would free themselves from the veil:

“If we manage to provide the right conditions for her to flourish, she will free herself from her veil and become French, while still remaining a believer if she wants to be, capable of carrying forth an ideal.”

France was embroiled in controversy earlier this year with its now infamous “burkini ban” put in place after the terrorist attack in Nice. It was clear in the upheaval from Muslim women that many don’t want to remove the veil as Hollande seems to forsee them desiring.

Since the president's efforts to "provide the right conditions" for Islam to flourish, the country is awash in Muslim refugees and it’s causing a problem. Even Hollande can see that. He spoke to reporters and acknowledged that France indeed has a problem with Islam:

“I think there are too many arrivals, of immigration that shouldn’t be there. The fact that there is a problem [in France] with Islam is true. Nobody doubts that.

“It’s not Islam itself that poses a problem in the sense of it being a religion that is dangerous in itself, but because it wants to assert itself as a religion inside the French Republic.”

And that was the launching point for his naive comments about Marianne and future Muslim “freedom.”

Apparently President Hollande didn’t get the memo that Islamists don’t want to assimilate, they want to dominate with a caliphate.
